Why Ranking on Page One of Google Matters More Than Ever. How We Can Help You.
If you’re a small or medium-sized business, the idea of being listed on page one of Google can feel like an uphill battle, but here is the truth, it’s entirely possible as long as you get your website well-optimised and tick as many of Google‘s boxes as possible!
In this short blog, we will break down a few key factors that can influence your website rankings and what you can do today to move closer to being ranked and listed on page one.
On-page SEO is the foundation of your visibility. So this should be one of your first areas to focus on.
If the basics aren’t right, Google is unlikely to reward your website with visibility in the search engine results pages, often called the SERPS.
Here are some foundational elements that need to be sorted.
The first is keyword optimisation, so take care to ensure that you use relevant keywords naturally in your titles headings and URLs and throughout your content.
Content quality is key, you should write content that is original, helpful and comprehensive in its nature.
Google values depth and good quality of content over thin and poorly written blogs.
Internal linking is super important too so take care to link to other relevant pages on your website to help Google better understand the structure and hierarchy of your content.
User experience is also important, so ensure your website has a clean design, and fast loading pages And of course make sure it is Mobile friendly.
One of our clients, a company in the industrial equipment hire space, saw a significant increase in their leads after their new website went live and we had provided them with some guidance around improving the website with high-quality content and incorporating a chatbot across their website.
Their previous website had struggled to get ranked online and whilst they were generating traffic they were not getting as many enquiries and leads as they had hoped for.
Technical SEO is also important, your website could have fantastic content, but if it’s technically flawed, search engines will likely ignore it.
Technical SEO ensures that your website is crawlable, indexable and user-friendly.
A mobile-first design is super important as the majority of searches are now completed on mobile devices.
Websites that load in sub-two seconds are much more likely to rank higher on Google than those websites that struggle to load and take more than 2 seconds to load.
Always ensure you have an SSL certificate added to your website.
Staying updated on Google’s algorithms is also important.
Google‘s algorithm is now powered by AI and machine learning and their systems are designed to understand what they call ‘helpful content’ and engagement signals.
Consider if your website answers questions that the user is researching for.
Is your content useful, accurate and written by someone who has experience?
And do users stay on the page and engage or do they bounce straight off.
To stay competitive, you must consistently create content that solves real problems for your website visitors, so make sure that you are updating your blogs regularly and make sure that the content you create is following best practices.
Climbing the search engine results pages takes a combination of strategy, consistency and time.
Ranking on page one of Google, for example, is not a one-time fix, it is an ongoing process, but when done correctly the rewards can be substantial.
Better rankings equals more traffic, more leads and enquiries and more trust from potential customers.
Mastering on-page, technical and off-page SEO can be the difference between being found and being forgotten when it comes to the search engines.

They contacted us in late 2020 and at the time they were ranking for just four keywords organically.
We put together a 360° SEO strategy to build out their site content in conjunction with their web developers and agreed on a list of top keywords to target.
Whilst we saw some almost immediate increased rankings, within two years they were ranking for over 130 keywords. We had increased their Google rankings by over 4,500 positions and many location-based keywords which were never visible on Google before it started to dominate page one of both Google and Bing.
They were generating a consistent level of enquiries and the commercial work that they could only have dreamt of previously.
Air-conditioning and HVAC is a very competitive sector to operate with intense competition for page one rankings especially in and around London.
Case study number 17 was where we helped an existing client launching a new business to sell lithium batteries in the UK.
They had a brand-new website ready to launch on the site that was not ranking on Google.
We set about detailed keyword research and competitor analysis homing in on the most powerful keywords that they needed to generate traffic from and what they needed to rank on Google.
We saw dramatic growth in the rankings over the first eight months of the project and we also supported them with the Google Ads campaign which helped to generate sales in those early months while still waiting to rank organically.
Within eight months they had 36 keywords on page one and we were seeing a consistently growing level of online sales and enquiries as a result of the SEO that we had undertaken.
Case study number 18 is where we were approached by a retailer in Ireland that sells running shoes and sports accessories from physical stores and also from their e-commerce website.
They had been with other digital marketing agencies and we’re not confident that they were doing what needed to be done to take them to the next level.
They engaged with us for both search engine optimisation and also Google Ads management which are 2 of our core specialisms.
As well as increasing their organic rankings and traffic substantially we have generated fantastic returns (ROI) from the Google ad campaign.
This particular client had spent £25,000 on Google Ads clicks and had generated £429,000 in sales which is a 16 X return on their click spend. This is known as a ROAS (return on ad spend).
Put simply for the £1,000 they spent on ad clicks they generated £16,000 in sales.
Our SEO team stays on top of their project weekly and we have implemented all of the best practices into their search engine optimisation and also into the Google Ads account. They have continued to see rising sales and have scaled their ad spend in line with the results being achieved. They have recently launched paid ads on Microsoft too, which helps to drive lower-cost clicks and improve their returns even further.
