Should I invest in SEO if I have Google Ads?

Should I invest in SEO if I have Google Ads?

Even if your business is already running Google Ads and bringing in leads and enquiries you may be thinking do you really need to invest in SEO?

It’s a question that’s asked by many business owners and one that we hear all the time from potential clients.

Google Ads are great at delivering fast results and can put your business website at the top of the search engine results pages for specific keywords.

However, whilst Google Ads can generate you instant traffic, SEO plays a completely different role in your marketing strategy.

And businesses that invest in both SEO and Google Ads often see the best results long-term.

Google Ads switches off the moment that your budget is used. It’s almost like you are renting a place on the page.

SEO, on the other hand, is a medium to long-term investment that pays back over time.

Because when your website is ranking organically for keywords on page one of the search engine’s results page, you continue to receive traffic without having to pay Google Ads for every click.

Search engine optimisation is like owning the property, where Google Ads is like renting the property.

Google Ads and SEO both have an important role to play, but only SEO keeps delivering long-term value after your initial outlay.

There are other benefits from investing in both Google Ads and search engine optimisation, too.

Running both Google Ads and SEO together will help to improve your overall visibility and trust, it doubles the chance of you getting the click (as you could have two listings on the search engines’ results page), and importantly it also reduces competitors space.

Many people don’t realise that a well-optimised website can also potentially improve your Google Ads performance.

One of the metrics that Google looks at is the quality score, and a better landing page can generate you an improved quality score.

An improved quality score can lead to a lower cost per click in the Google Ads auctions, and this helps to deliver a better return on investment for your ad spend.

Google Ads are typically great for users who want to buy or take action now, but when people are still researching and they are lower down the funnel, SEO content (blogs guides frequently asked questions et cetera), can help to educate potential customers on your products or services, help to improve your brand awareness and nurture leads for when the client is further down the funnel.

The chances are your competitors are also investing in search engine optimisation, and SEO helps you stay visible and relevant in a highly competitive market.

If you are not investing in SEO for your website, the chances are your competitors will be, and that means they are building a long-term authority whilst you are only renting the space on page 1 with Google Ads.

Over the last decade, we have put together a number of case studies to help demonstrate the results that we have been able to achieve.

Case study number 15 relates to an online fabric retailer that we have been working with since 2019.

They had been struggling to generate online sales, and as their business wanted to become less aligned with their physical location in London and they wanted to generate more traffic, leads and sales from digital marketing.

The world was fast-moving online, and they wanted to capitalise on this huge growth opportunity.

We made a number of recommendations, and consistent optimisation has been made over the years, which has seen a surge in traffic and online sales.

Despite many Google algorithm changes, we’ve grown their organic rankings by over 12,000 positions on Google and Bing combined, and continue to generate great exposure online.

They have previously invested in search engine optimisation without seeing great results, but they were especially nervous about changing Search Engine Optimisation Agency.

We helped to put them at ease and have continued to provide education around SEO methodology and our ongoing work with regular and detailed monthly update calls.

An ongoing and consistent investment in link building over the last few years has also played an important role in helping them to achieve online success with their SEO.
