Google’s June 2025 Update Just Landed, Is Your Website About To Vanish?

Google‘s latest algorithm update is currently rolling out, now known as the June 2025 core update. This is a major global update being rolled out by the search engine giant and is impacting sites across every industry.

If organic traffic is critical to your business now is the time to act to see what you can do to benefit from this change.

In this brief blog, we will dive into what we know already.

On the 30th of June Google announced a broad core algorithm update which is part of Google‘s ongoing mission to improve the relevance and quality of its search results.

Core updates are generally sweeping changes as to how Google evaluates and ranks specific web pages, there are no specific niches targeted and every website globally is potentially affected by a core update.

We are already starting to see feedback from other professionals in the industry where sites with thin or outdated content are immediately noticing significant drops in search engine results.

Pages which lack clear expertise or trust signals are seeing sharp declines and one thing is already very clear: the update is designed to reward real value and those websites with weaker or AI-generated spam content are likely to suffer.

Google hasn’t released an exact breakdown (they never do) of what is being targeted but from past updates and recent changes, we can see the focus remains on rewarding websites that demonstrate experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness.

Those websites with helpful content e.g. which contain pages that answer user intent with clarity, include original insight, include details of authors and include a clean structure are also being rewarded.

Websites with AI-produced spam (or think content) and sites bloated with affiliate links that offer no real value are already likely to be seeing significant drops.

Here at Altitude Internet we have helped and advised many clients over the years particularly as the rollout of core algorithm updates creates anxiety and unease for Website owners globally.

Here are a few hot tips on what you can do now!

Go through your top-performing web pages and ask yourself if the content is still relevant. Does it offer unique insight? Would a human find it satisfying and helpful to read? If you can’t answer yes to these questions, then you should probably rewrite consolidate or merge the content quite quickly.

Where possible include biographies of authors demonstrating qualifications and references and use real data coupled with first-hand experience and original media (for example your photos and videos) rather than general stock photography.

Generally, we recommend that you avoid AI tools, whilst these can help, nothing can beat genuinely useful humanised content written by a professional.

You should also focus on the internal linking and user experience on your website making it easy for users and Google to find your best content.

Our next tip would be to take a deep breath and wait before you panic, core updates often cause temporary fluctuation in search engine results before settling down, so you may wish to give it a few weeks before making drastic decisions and changes to your current content. Ultimately, Google is not trying to punish Website owners. It is trying to reward those who offer the best content so if you treat every piece of content as an opportunity to educate, inspire or solve a problem, your rankings will more than likely benefit from any current or future core update. Generally, we feel Content is King.

❓ 1. What is a Google Core Update?
This is a question we get asked frequently. A Google Core Update is a significant change to Google’s search algorithms that affect how web pages are ranked. These updates happen several times a year and are designed to improve the relevance and quality of search results. Unlike minor updates, core updates can impact a wide range of industries and websites globally, often causing noticeable shifts in rankings—even for sites that were performing well previously. Core algorithm changes are significant.

❓ 2. How often does Google release Core Updates?
Google typically rolls out core updates 3 to 4 times per year, although there’s no fixed schedule. Some years may have more frequent or more disruptive updates depending on changes in how Google evaluates content quality, relevance, or user intent. Each core update can take 1 to 3 weeks to fully roll out, during which time rankings may fluctuate, sometimes significantly at first.

❓ 3. Why did my website rankings drop after a core update?
A rankings drop following a core update doesn’t mean your site was penalised—it means that Google’s systems have reassessed your content relative to other content on the web. Your pages might now be viewed as less relevant or useful compared to competitors. Factors like outdated information, lack of expertise, thin content, or a poor user experience can contribute to drops. It’s important to review your content through the lens of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) and update accordingly. We’ve written many recent blogs about EEAT so feel free to check out our blog page for other useful and interesting news about this aspect and how you can benefit from EEAT.

❓ 4. How can I recover from a core update?
There’s no guaranteed “quick fix,” but you can improve your chances of recovery by:

  1. Auditing and improving content for depth, accuracy, and user intent.
  2. Improving page experience, including loading speed, mobile usability, and internal linking.
  3. Avoiding low-quality or AI-spammy content, and focusing on original high-quality content.

❓ 5. How do I know if a Google Core Update has affected my site?
If you notice a sudden and significant change in traffic or rankings—positive or negative—around the time of a confirmed core update, it’s likely related.

You can:

  1. Check official announcements via Google Search Central or SEO news sites to see if you feel you’ve been impacted.
  2. Use tools like Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush, or Ahrefs to monitor traffic, impressions, and keyword positions.
  3. Look for patterns across multiple pages—if several high-performing pages dropped at once, a core update is a common cause.
  4. Speak to experts at a professional SEO agency and utilise their skills and expertise to advise on solutions and how you can benefit from the core update.
