Five Top Tips For Improving Your Google Ads campaign

Five Top Tips For Improving Your Google Ads Campaign

Google Ads are one of the most powerful ways to reach your target market online, offering businesses and website owners a chance to reach their target audience at just the right time when they are searching for their products and services.

However, running an effective Google Ads campaign requires more than just setting it up and launching the ads.

To maximise your return on investment (ROI), and to minimise budget wastage, it is essential to monitor and continually optimise the Google Ads campaign.

Here are five top tips to help you on your way!

Tip number 1 is to refine your keyword strategy.

The wrong keywords in your Google Ads account can burn through your budget, whilst the right ones can help by driving quality traffic.

Using tools like the Google keyword planner is a great way to help identify potential high-performing keywords with reasonable levels of competition and search volumes.

You need to utilise negative keywords to help filter out and prevent irrelevant traffic from burning through the budget, for example, if you’re selling expensive luxury watches, you must add keywords as negatives, such as cheap or free or budget.

Otherwise, you will burn your click budget for people looking for irrelevant things like cheap or budget watches.

It is also important that you have the right combination of match types, Google runs broad match, phrase match and exact match keywords – so it is super important that you strike the right balance between each of these.

As an agency we generally recommend that we use a combination of phrase match and exact match and it’s rare that we feel that broad match keywords can help generate you a positive ROI.

Tip number 2 is definitely to create compelling ad copy.

Your ad copy is your first impression so it is important to grab attention and generate a click.

In the headlines and the descriptions, you should include benefits and calls to action, so for example shop now and save 10% would be a good call to action or call today for your free quote or Hurry Black Friday deals end in seven days.

Tip number 3 is to optimise your landing page.

You should ensure consistency and the landing page should align with the messaging of your ad copy and the keywords you’re bidding on.

So for example, let’s assume your ad promotes 50% off winter coats, the landing page should also highlight those same products and the same message. Include great images of winter coats and ensure the same message is clearly displayed online.

The landing page should load in sub one second and should also have a really clear call to action, so for example order today and get free shipping.

Tip Number 4 is to include audience targeting.

This is where you can narrow down by age, gender, income or parental status to help refine your audiences.

You can also consider a remarketing campaign, which is where you can re-target users that have already visited your website.

The final tip, tip number 5 is to monitor, analyse and optimise the campaign.

No Google Ads account is perfect from the start which is why ongoing monitoring and optimisations are absolutely crucial.

You should review your Google ad performance at least every few days, adjusting bids and budgets – And then also pausing keywords which are not generating conversions and adding other variations of keywords that are generating conversions.

Data is key so the more data you build up, the better and more informed decisions you can take.
