A 953% Increase in Google Keywords: How We Transformed This Construction Company’s SEO
Having a great-looking website is important, but if nobody can find it on Google, it isn’t doing its job.
That was the challenge facing a local construction company in the Lincoln area when they first approached Altitude Internet.
They had a strong business with an experienced team and a great reputation for the work they delivered, but what they lacked was a website that represented their business quality or the Google visibility needed to consistently put them in front of potential customers searching at the right time.
We set out to change both.
After a thorough consultation and a deep dive into their existing activity, we recommended a new website.
This was backed by search engine optimisation to generate more traffic, leads, and enquiries.
The result?
A stunning new website fit for purpose with more than 15,000 ranking position improvements and an increase from just 17 keywords ranking on Google to 179.
That’s more than a 10x increase in the number of keywords generating visibility on Google.
Like many established construction businesses, our client had built their reputation over the years by delivering great work.
But their Online presence just hadn’t kept pace with the Business.
The existing website wasn’t doing enough to showcase their service experience or previous projects, and more importantly, it had very limited Reach and visibility on search engines.
This meant they were potentially missing hundreds of searches made by people looking for construction services—searches for which our client simply wasn’t appearing.
We needed to create a website that both looked great and then made sure potential customers would actually find it on Google.
We started by developing a completely new website.
The website needed to do much more than simply explain what the Business does; customers want reassurance, to see the quality of previous work, and to understand the full range of services available.
They also want to know they’re dealing with an established professional company and ultimately needed a clear reason to make contact.
Our team created a modern professional design website that better reflected the company’s quality and work.
It included clear service information, strong calls to action (to help increase leads and enquiries), and a structure that made it easy for visitors to find what they were looking for.
Search engine optimisation was considered from the very beginning.
The site structure, individual service pages, content, headings, internal linking, and technical foundations were all developed with Google visibility in mind from the very start.
Our SEO team began developing the website’s organic search presence.
Rather than focusing on one or two headline keywords, we looked at a wide range of searches potential customers were making.
We identified commercially relevant search terms and keyword opportunities and then worked on improving the website’s relevance and authority.
The objective wasn’t simply more traffic; it was greater visibility from searches that could generate genuine potential enquiries across their local area.
Instead of having a small Google footprint, the company was now appearing across a much broader range of keywords relevant to its services, but that wasn’t the only improvement.
We increased their keyword ranking by more than 950% and their average ranking positions by over 15,000 positions.
This meant that previously keywords which were not appearing on Google started ranking on page one, existing rankings moved upwards, and the website began competing across a broad range of relevant search terms.
After a few months, the client started to generate more organic leads and enquiries, and as each month went by, the rankings improved. The traffic improved, and their leads improved.
This project is a good example of why we believe website design and search engine optimisation should work together.
You can build the best-looking website in the world, but if potential customers can’t find it, its ability to generate new leads and enquiries will be limited.
Equally, there is little value in driving visitors to an outdated website that doesn’t inspire confidence or encourage people to make contact.
Over the last two years we have worked hard to improve leads and the quality of leads, and the snowball effect of more traffic, leads and enquiries has compounded over time.
